Rest, restore and reconnect at Higher Trewithen

Higher Trewithen is a substantial early medieval farmstead set within four acres of private gardens, pasture and woodlands, near Truro in Stithians. Surrounded by the peace and tranquility of the Cornish countryside, Higher Trewithen is being lovingly and carefully modified by the Millen family to create a welcoming, environmentally conscious retreat suitable for family and pet-friendly self-catering holidays.

Whether you plan on visiting family or friends in Falmouth, shopping in Truro or surfing at Portreah or Redruth, our central location makes Higher Trewithen a fantastic place from which to explore all that Cornwall has to offer.

Simon & Maria

Some fun facts about Simon

  • Simon is a keen kayaker. He enjoys rock gardening (paddling though ocean whitewater through the rocky coastal shoreline) and exploring the caves and coves dotted along the Cornish coast.
  • He has been on telly! He used to volunteer for a wildlife rescue centre in Leatherhead and appeared on a TV show that followed the work of this charity, called Wildlife SOS. One episode saw Simon get pushed in a lake by a goose!
  • He enjoys taking part in marine surveys organised by Seaquest Southwest that take place at various times of the year across Cornwall. These surveys are part of an ongoing program of marine projects aimed at conserving and protecting marine wildlife and wild places for future generations and anyone can join in https://www.falmouthmarineconservation.co.uk/research-3
  • Simon has had two knee operations since moving to Cornwall, in 2016, and built Turkey Towers after his first knee op in 2017, while his knee was still in a brace.

Some fun facts about Maria

  • Maria is a qualified primary school teacher and still works as a supply teacher across Cornwall from time to time. She is also due to start a yoga teacher Training course with Falmouth Yoga Space in September 2020. Who knows, we might be able to offer yoga classes at Higher Trewithen Holiday Cottages in the future!
  • Maria is the Chairman of a local community group, Stithians Baby and Toddler Group. Maria and two amazing local ladies set up, and continue to run SBTG every Friday during term time. The group is a not for profit community group and was set up to help tackle rural isolation and provide a safe meeting place for parents, carers and their babies. SBTG has been a great success and is much welcomed community group. Maria is also a member of The Stithians Centre Management Committee.
  • Maria is a keen distance runner and has completed a number of half marathons around the UK and took the family all the way to Scotland for one of her half marathons. Simon did the driving, bless him!
  • Maria didn’t get to see Higher Trewithen before it was to become their home. Simon spent a full day looking for their new family home while Maria was teaching. An interesting telephone conversation followed which involved Simon informing Maria that he had just had an offer on a house accepted and the house was in Cornwall!
