Covid-19 Procedures and Measures
We very much hope that you’ve all been keeping safe and well during this very difficult and quite emotional time! It has certainly been a strange and worrying experience for everyone. We’ve all had to adapt to a very new way of living in such a short space of time.
Here at Higher Trewithen, we’ve been extremely busy working out how we can welcome guests back to Cornwall, in the safest way possible as soon as the Government allows us to.
As some of you may know, Higher Trewithen has five holiday cottages and two apartments, set within the Cornish countryside. We have around four acres of gardens, wetland, woodland, and pasture, most of which is available for guest use all year round and we are surrounded, on all sides, by farmland.
Over the last three (nearly four) years, we’ve tried to make Higher Trewithen a relaxing, environmentally friendly place to stay, where families and couples can spend quality time together, enjoying the countryside, getting to know our rare breed animals and just being together.
Now the Government guidelines have been made available, we’ve been able to complete a COVID-19 Risk Assessment.
Our Covid-19 Risk Assessment has helped us establish how we will open from July 4th 2020 and highlighted some necessary adjustments to the way your holidays will operate going forward – we hope these adjustments will not detract from the experience of staying at Higher Trewithen.
Throughout this pandemic, our priority has always been the safety of guests, our family, and the long-term residents, who live onsite all year round, and this will never change.
The adjustments that we have identified, including additional hygiene and social distancing measures, have been detailed below.
We’re legally permitted to start welcoming holiday guests to Higher Trewithen from July 4th, 2020 and we’ve been working hard to enable us to do so.
We’re closely following Government announcements regarding the reopening of holiday accommodation and we will adjust our plans according to the latest Government advice.
Our booking calendar is open July 4th, 2020 for new bookings from this date.
As many of you may already know, we have very high standards of cleanliness. We’ve received a 5-star rating for cleanliness from Visit England every year, since we took over the business in 2016.
However, we will be adopting a two-step cleaning procedure in all holiday homes and communal areas.
- Step 1 – Clean with our usual environmentally friendly and cruelty free cleaning products.
- Step 2 – Disinfect with hospital grade, anti-viral disinfectant, Peritab.
We’ve devised a robust Covid-19 Cleaning Protocol, following strict guidance issued by the Professional Association of Self Caterers (PASC), alongside any further guidance issued by the Government and undertaken specialist Covid-19 Holiday Let Cleaning training organised by The Landlord’s Little Helper Cleaning School.
The additional housekeeping required means we will have to adjust the arrival and departure times for all bookings.
We anticipate that guests will be able to arrive from 5pm at the earliest. However, we’re asking that all guests wait until they have received a text message or phone call from us confirming that your accommodation is ready, before checking in.
Hand sanitiser dispensers will now be situated in the Laundry Room and within each property. We would recommend, and greatly appreciate, that all guests bring your own small bottle of hand sanitiser to carry with you while out and about.
Facilities and Activities on Site
We are very happy for guests to come say hello to the animals during your stay. The animals will be available in their fields and enclosures as usual, however, we politely ask that all guests maintain a 2-meter distance from any individual who is not a member of their household or “bubble” and to be considerate of other guests at all times.
Please use a hand sanitiser before and after visiting the animals.
While we’re doing our best to make our facilities and your experience as safe as possible it’s essential that everyone understands that visiting the animals will be entirely at your own risk.
The Laundry Room will be closed to guests at this time.
However, if you need to use the laundry facilities during your stay, please email email@example.com or call 07587878618/07514916167 to arrange access. The laundry Room will be disinfected and locked each day.
Games, books and sunloungers
We have had to remove our games, books and sun loungers for the time being.
Our other garden equipment is too big for us to remove and it is not possible for us to clean this between each guest. Therefore, it will have to remain in the communal areas. Use of this equipment is entirely at your own risk.
Communal Areas and Equipment
As many of you know, we usually have highchairs, stairs gates and cots available for guests to borrow. However, if these items cannot be cleaned to our high standards between guests, we may not be able to offer these items to you. We will advise you as soon as possible if these items are not available for use.
If you do borrow one of these items, it would be greatly appreciated if you could assist us, and other guests, by leaving these items as clean as possible on departure.
Please maintain a two-meter distance from anyone outside of your family or “bubble”, including staff.
Cleaning your accommodation
We will be supplying our usual range of environmentally friendly and cruelty free cleaning products in your accommodation, along with a refillable bottle of alcohol hand sanitiser that must remain in the property.
We will also be providing a bottle of cruelty free disinfectant that you are welcome to dilute and use during your stay if you wish. Please follow all product safety guidelines as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Please try and air your accommodation throughout your stay and clean as regularly as you can.
Out and About
We will not be able to leave our Guest Information Folder in the cottages, instead we will email a copy to each guest.
Many visitor attractions (National Trust, The Eden Project etc.) are now requiring visitors to book in advance to ensure safe management of their venue, so do try and plan ahead as far in advance of your booking as you can.
Most of the attractions, restaurants and pubs across Cornwall are still able to offer their services to you. While we are very happy to help advise you of the quieter places to visit, it will always be advisable to check before you go as things can change very quickly at the moment and we would not want anyone to be disappointed.
Please maintain a two-meter distance from anyone outside of your family or “bubble”.
Many of our local pubs and cafes are offering takeaway services and some ask for pre-orders exclusively. We will be sharing details of local services on our Facebook and Instagram pages as frequently as possible.
Our local village shop, Costcutter, Cornish Food Box and many local supermarkets are all offering home delivery services but it will be imperative for you to book a slot for after you arrive (even next day) so you can unload and store it yourselves.
We will be sending a text message or calling you as soon as your accommodation is ready, and it is possible for your to arrive on site.
We anticipate that you will be able to arrive from 5pm at the earliest.
We will send further details explaining how to check in will operates around one week before your arrival, along with a copy of our Guest Information Folder and any further or updated advice and guidance.

All guests can now manage their reservation online via our new Guest Account feature. Guests with an existing reservation will be sent a link to their Reservation Account via email.

Please leave your accommodation as clean as possible on departure, removing all waste from the property and place it in the relevant green bins at the front of the drive.
If You Feel Unwell
Most importantly please do not travel if you begin to feel unwell, or show symptoms of Covid-19 before your holiday. Cornwall has one hospital and can easily become overwhelmed in peak summer season.
If you should become ill during your stay, you will need to inform us as soon as possible. You will be required to isolate yourself immediately and travel home as soon as you are able to do so, as per Government advice.
Additional charges may apply if you need to isolate in your accommodation in excess of your booked holiday dates.
We hope this information is helpful.
We’d like to reassure you that we’re doing everything we can to ensure your safety and give you the full Cornish experience.
We will continue to update this notice with any significant changes as we receive the relevant information, and would like to thank you for your understanding, and for being patient with us during this unprecedented time.
Please do not hesitate to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or worries you might have and we will do our utmost to help.
Rest assured that we are doing everything we can to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible in the safest way possible.
